Promising news for Saab Owners – Letter from Budds’ Saab
Dear Saab Owner,
Firstly I would like to thank you, for your loyalty during the last few years, as Saab has gone through some difficult times. This dark cloud has surrounded Saab for way too long, but finally we see some exciting solutions. The Bankruptcy Court has announced a sale that looks quite promising. NEVS AB has agreed to purchase a majority of the bankrupt automaker. The consortium is owned by Hong Kong-based National Modern Energy Holdings Ltd. and the Japanese investment group Sun Investment LLC. The two partners created NEVS with the lone intention to purchase Saab. The group is currently led by former automotive executives. The purchase takes over the $1.9 billion in Saab debt. Both the bankruptcy administrators and NEVS agreed not to disclose the sale price for the company, but have made the selection based on the company’s ability to take Saab forward, with Swedish heritage. Saab has begun hiring engineers and product planners to support their new business model.
Interestingly enough, the sale does not include Saab parts worldwide. Instead, the Swedish National Debt office has announced it intends to take over the parts business. A newly created company will ensure Saab parts will be sourced for the world market, through one source. This source will be a well-financed, dependable source that the owners and dealers require, to make sure all the spare parts are available at reasonable prices for years to come.
More information will continue to be available as we go forward, however reports are, that the first vehicle from the newly-rescued Swedish automaker will be an electric car. Based on the next 9-3, the EV will bow in 2014. Saab had done much work on new products prior to their financial issues, and I have no doubt this hard work will allow the NEVS to restart the company in a reasonable time frame. There are also reports, that there are solutions from another large Automotive Manufacturer as a partner to NEVS, which will allow Saab the ability to compete in the world markets like never before.
